I take the liberty of writing to you as Chief Justice &c &c.
I have been in England almost on sick leave, which has nearly expired. I have been in full expectation of returning thither since the month of October last, being recommended by the Duke of Newcastle to Her Majesty for the honour of Knighthood, for which I was strongly recommended by His Excellency the Governor, Sir Hercules Robinson. Unfortunately, I have long been, and, as I learn, still am unable, in consequence of severe illness.
